Cyprus employers must register their employees in "ERGANI"

All employers in Cyprus are obligated to register online the Essential Terms of Employment of all their employees by 28 February 2025.

Further to a Decree issued by the Ministry of Labour & Social Insurance, all employers in Cyprus are obliged to register, by 28 February 2025, the Essential Terms of Employment for all their existing and new employees, in the “ERGANI” information system which is the online registration system of the Social Insurance Department.

The Decree requires the creation of an employer account in “ERGANI”, if not already created, as well as the creation of an “Employment Contract” for all employees without any exception.

The Essential Terms of Employment to be registered include the following:

  • Employer details
  • For retail businesses, the type of business
  • Employee details
  • Employer's registered office
  • Place of work as per the employment contract and actual workplace at the time of registration
  • Job description and employee's specialization
  • Employment start date
  • Employment end date for fixed-term contracts
  • For temporary employment businesses, the details of the indirect employer
  • Terms and duration of the probationary period
  • Duration of annual leave and method of allocation
  • Salary/Wages, frequency of payment (daily/weekly/monthly/hourly)
  • Working hours of a standard workday/week
  • Indication if the employee's schedule is unpredictable
  • Other benefits/allowances, commissions, cost-of-living allowance, etc.

The main objective of this obligation is to facilitate the verification of compliance with local labour laws and to reduce undeclared work.
